The 1939-45 Star was a British Commonwealth campaign medal for service in World War II (Sept 3, 1939 – Sept 2, 1945). Awarded for 180 days of operational service (or 60 days for RAF aircrew/airborne troops) in active areas, it was the first of the WW2 stars, featuring King George VI's cipher and a ribbon with Navy blue, Army red, and RAF light blue stripes, with bars like Battle of Britain and Bomber Command available.
